Acupuncture FAQs

If you are dealing with chronic pain, there are ways to get relief. Synergy Health Partners can help. We serve the Aurora, Thornton, and Denver areas of Colorado. One of the treatments we use to help our patients is acupuncture. Below are some frequently asked questions about acupuncture.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a method of healing that originated in China thousands of years ago. Thin needles are placed on specific parts of the body to relieve pain. Over 3 million Americans have found relief from their pain and dysfunction through acupuncture.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Many people do not like needles, but acupuncture does not hurt. The needles are very thin, and placed just under the skin to rejuvenate the body. Most people feel little to no pain, and usually feel relaxed and full of energy after one treatment session. Sometimes, needles may cause soreness that does not last very long after treatment.

What Conditions Does Acupuncture Help?

Acupuncture can help improve symptoms of many conditions. Some of these conditions include low back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, pain from arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, dental pain, and other types of pain. Based on where the pain is coming from, needles will be placed strategically on the body to remove pain and heal those areas. Acupuncture has even been shown to help reduce nausea, improve symptoms from cancer treatment, and help with fertility issues.

How Does Acupuncture Heal?

Acupuncture heals by realigning the body's flow of energy through specific points on the body. There are 14 energy pathways that work together to heal the body. When one part of the body is injured, these pathways are not aligned with each other. The needles placed just below the skin's surface release endorphins that improve brain activity and blood flow. Endorphins are natural painkillers that help reduce pain in the body during and after acupuncture.
